Source: EU to cut energy dependency on Russia, Persian Gulf states

BRUSSELS, Feb 14 (PRIME) -- The E.U. will continue cutting its energy dependency on Russia and the countries of the Persian Gulf, a diplomatic source told PRIME on Thursday.

“The E.U is aimed at reduction of energy dependency on Russia and the Persian Gulf states diversifying imports with contracts with gas producers in North America, Central Asia, and Africa, and also through expansion of infrastructure for storage of liquefied natural gas,” the source said.

Recent amendments to the E.U. Gas Directive will allow the E.U. to apply the standards of its energy market to third countries, the source added.
